Five Things

  • Ryan Adams' self-titled album is due in September.  Check out his video with that creepy Elvira chick.
  • Caribou's new joint is already sounding downright delicious.  Check out the title track "Our Love."
  • Vampire Weekend discuss making the band's excellent second album, Contra.
  • Check out Arcade Fire's video for the weirded-out sock hop, "You Already Know."
  • Watch a fan tribute video for "I Watched the Film The Song Remains the Same," a song that Pitchfork just named one of the 100 best tracks of the decade.  Tellingly, the gloriously hazy strummer may not even rank among the best five songs on Benji.

Song of the Week

Desertshore's second all-instrumental album, Migrations of Glass, is another beautiful collection of songs from the Bay Area.  Featuring Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon guitarist Phil Carney and classical pianist Chris Connolly, the tracks stretch out, unhurried, with lovely little surprises in texture. Their last album, Mark Kozelek and Desertshore, was chock-filled with their expert playing, but it was always going to be overshadowed by Kozelek's inspired lyrical presence.  Here, Carney and Connolly express their languid musical ideas without the heft or expectations from their longtime collaborator.

Check out "Until Morning Comes" and "Forevermore" right here.

Song of the Week

Spoon just dropped a new album called They Want My Soul, the band's first full-length since 2010's Transference.  Check out the bouncy groove of first single "Inside Out."  The D Man is listening and liking.  A lot.
