Song of the Week

The Suburbs

Still listening to the loose, propulsive, and serious "Ready to Start" from Arcade Fire's excellent third album. Indeed, The D Man has been living in The Suburbs all week. October is a great time to be there. Sometimes it is a wise decision to shelve a new release until the initial reaction has blown over and your first listens are entirely your own. Plus, The D Man knew this was absolutely not a summer album. Another good call.

Like you, I've been listening to this album all week. It's an "album" for a change -- it hangs together. But, it also has a lot of absolutely great songs, stuff that would get played on radio stations in a perfect world (i.e., where everyone's taste was as good as mine). And, it wasn't a bad summer album, but it's a great October album. Probably makes my desert island top ten.

Well said, Mr. Reese! It is impressive how seamless the album is in theme, tone, and style.

And I know you are a champion of the suburbs, but I must say, you look mighty good downtown!
